Brand Identity & Web Design for a Children's Book Publisher
Client: Seadragon
Work: Brand Identity & Web Design
The Challenge
Seadragon was a brand-new publishing company focused on children’s books. They needed a brand identity that would be instantly recognisable—something fun, warm, and inviting. But beyond that, they wanted to build a brand with purpose. Their books weren’t just stories; they carried strong social and environmental messages. The challenge was to create a brand that captured this essence while still appealing to children and parents alike.
The Solution
After diving into their brand values, it became clear that Seadragon’s identity needed to reflect more than just playful storytelling. Emotional intelligence, sustainability, and a sense of adventure were all key themes.
The solution started with the name itself—Seadragon. This gave us a great starting point for a visual identity that felt magical yet rooted in nature. The logo design featured a gentle, friendly seadragon with crown-like fronds, symbolising wisdom and care. These fronds weren’t just decorative; they subtly represented the brand’s commitment to nurturing young minds and the planet.
The colour palette was chosen to evoke warmth and curiosity, steering away from overly bright primary colours in favor of softer, natural hues. Typography played a crucial role too—hand-drawn elements added a sense of storytelling, while clean, modern fonts kept the brand professional and adaptable.
To make the brand feel cohesive across different touchpoints, we developed a set of visual assets that could be used in books, marketing materials, and digital platforms. Every element worked together to create an identity that felt both imaginative and meaningful.
The Result
Seadragon launched with a strong, cohesive brand that resonated with both their young audience and the parents making the buying decisions. Their first book, The Rotters, was published in 2023, bringing their mission to life in print. The brand identity helped position Seadragon as a trusted and engaging publisher from the start.
With a clear visual language in place, Seadragon now has a strong foundation to grow, releasing future books under a brand that truly represents their values. The combination of fun and emotional intelligence in their identity ensures they stand out in the competitive world of children’s publishing.
